When an existing nonprofit organization (Humanitarian Social Innovations) with 501(c)(3) status allows a program or grass roots movement/organization (Downtown Wellness Berks) to run under its umbrella through a formal agreement. The Fiscal Sponsor agrees to handle many aspects of administrative services and assume some or all of the legal and financial responsibility of its accepted programs. Taking on these tasks allows Downtown Wellness Berks to focus on creating, planning, and running charitable, mission-driven activities & events while Humanitarian Social Innovations maintains behind-the scenes operations.
Essentially, HSI agrees to handle all the nitty-gritty, office-related activities while DWB gets to spend time and energy on growing our affiliate list and working on fun & inspirational, community-building, awareness-raising events and projects.
What Are the Benefits to Downtown Wellness Berks for having HSI as a Fiscal Sponsor?
Ability to begin fundraising, without having to file for our own 501(c)(3) status.
